REVIEW: Maybelline New York's Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner in "Black"

Hello everyone! How are all of you? I have a product that I'm reviewing for you today, it's the well known Maybelline's Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner in "Black" :D

Recently I've been on a lookout for a good gel eyeliner since I am not too happy with the pen eyeliners that I have used so far and my one and only gel eyeliner that I owned has dried out :( SO after much research I decided to get me Maybelline!
This eyeliner has often been compared to the Bobbi Brown's gel eyeliner so you could say it's a dupe for it. Although, I haven't tried the Bobbi Brown's so I can't say much about that.

They have four shades in this gel eyeliner, Black, Brown, Charcoal and a Plum! However, I have only seen Black and Brown in the shops that I've visited so I don't know for sure whether the other two shades are available in Pakistan :( If any of you have seen any other shade, do let me know!

So moving on, the packaging of this product, I thought, was quite different! It reminded me of these goodie-bags that I used to get as a child on birthdays! So that made me happy :P

The gel is in a classy little glass pot which I thought it very handy and has a screw on cap. It's size is travel friendly so it makes it easy for me to carry it in my makeup bag!
It comes with a seperate brush. The quality of the brush is excellent, it's bristles are soft, the thick wand gives me a better hold of the brush however, I'm not too happy with it as its thin but "U" shaped. So that makes it difficult to create a wing and doesn't give much precision. For eyeliner, I would always prefer an angled brush!

Let's move on to the product itself!
It really does glide on like butter! The pigmentation is the best I've seen in gel eyeliners. I don't find the need to apply and re-apply to get the proper black. Just one swish, and it's on! Also, you really don't need to grab so much of the product on the brush, just a little amount would do the job.

The black is a matte black, it does look a bit sheen on application, but it dries up to a matte black.
It does take a couple of seconds to dry, so you might want to give it time to dry after application.

Lasting power? WOW! I was amazed really! The day I got it, I applied it on my eyes, and it didn't budge. That was a huge surprise for me since I have oily eyelids so I usually always expect my eyeliner to be stamped on my crease line. But this didn't, so yeay Maybelline! It lasted me a good 9-10 hours, and I didn't feel the need to give it a few touch ups. Yes Maybelline does say 24 hours of lasting power, so I haven't tried  it for THAT long, so I'll just leave that part for someone else to judge :P

Why I liked it :

- Travel friendly, I carry it everywhere!
- Affordable
- Pigmentation is great
- Lasting power on my oily lids is 9-10 hours

What I didn't like :

- The brush does not give much precision!

Overall? I am definitely gonna purchase this little beauty again! You should also give it a try! It's only for Rs.1100 / $9.99, cheap right? :D

I bought mine from Farid's Store at Ocean Towers in Karachi. It's easily available at any Maybelline stall! I would definitely recommend you to get this from the actual Maybelline counters, as I have heard there are a lot of fake products in the market.

Do you like using gel eyeliners? Which one's your favourite?

  4. As Rabiyah said, Maybelline's gel liner has a reputation of drying up super fast, so I don't think it's cheap for that price tag if it dries up so quickly in the pot. You should try Catrice! It's 750 PKR, better pigmentation and doesn't even dry up in the pot for as long as a year or more. :) x

  5. I tried this a couple of years ago and I'm glad to know the price hasn't risen past the 100 bucks! Its a very good gel liner but sadly it dries out after a few months but I've heard if you close the lid tightly, seal in a zip lock bag and pop it in warm water for some time it goes back to its original creamy consistency - I haven't gotten around trying that trick since I've replaced gel liners with liquid liner pens due to my poor eyesight and shaky hands! It looks great on you by the way and I think just4girls stocks the liner in violet and blue! - Sarah A.

  6. OMG! I jst created a look with this same Maybelline gel liner in Blue, and was jst about to write a reveiw on it! It's a lovely shade- somewhere between indigo blue and navy blue. It's brush, texture, lasting power, etc are ah-mazing! There also exists an ultra violet color in this, too. I bought i fairly ecently, so I can't comment on how soon it dries up, but so far I LOOOOOOVE it! (K, now what to do about my post n review on the same liner?)Our minds think alike....
